National Day Parade Rehearsals - Fireworks

For NDP Rehearsal pictures, check them out here.

Another highlight of going to the NDP Rehearsals is the fireworks.

I have added some photos below of the fireworks rehearsal, taken a week later from The Sail.

National Day Parade - Rehearsals

One of the exciting things you gotta see if you're in Singapore in July / August of each year is the National Day Parade (NDP) rehearsals.  There are just two Saturdays to go until the parade.

National Day is celebrated every year on 9 August, in commemoration of Singapore's independence from Malaysia in 1965.

Here a some pictures of the rehearsals held yesterday evening in the Marina Bay area.

Check out this blog for pictures of the fireworks.

Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor and His Legacy

This exhibition is being held at the Asian Civilisations Museum from
24 Jun 2011 - 16 Oct 2011

The figures, dating from 3rd century BC, were discovered in 1974 by some local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province, near the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor (Chinese: 秦始皇陵; pinyin: Qín Shǐhuáng Ling).

The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits.  Other terracotta non-military figures were also found in other pits and they include officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians.

Life After Death: An Installation by Justin Lee

This contemporary installation accompanies the special exhibition,
Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor & His Legacy,
on display at the museum from 24 June to 16 October 2011.

Placed at the entrance to the galleries of the Asian Civilisations Museum, this work by Justin Lee transports visitors into a dream-like night scene.

This work blends Western pop art with traditional Eastern imagery, giving rise to a new reading of a work that is a mix of many cultures, and thus decidedly Singaporean.

World Netball Championship 2011

Since its inauguration in 1960, the world’s best have come together every four years to compete for the coveted title of World Netball Champions.

Title sponsored by Mission Foods and organized by Netball Singapore, the Championships brings together the top 16 countries, over 300 athletes and Officials and it will be broadcast live to an estimated 400 million viewers around the world.

I managed to get tickets to watch some of the games that were being played at Singapore Indoor Stadium.  I managed to watch Northern Ireland vs Samoa, Fiji vs Wales and New Zealand vs Trinidad & Tobago.

After the New Zealand vs Trinidad & Tobago game, there was an autograph session.  Unfortunately there were too many people in order for me to obtain autographs, but at least I've got some pictures.
